Most dye sublimation is printed using a printing process that uses heat to transfer dye to a medium such as polyester and nylon fabric. The process is usually to lay one color at a time using a ribbon that has color panels. Most dye-sublimation printers use CMYK or CMYO.

Manufacturing time: As dye-sublimation printers utilise heat to transfer the dye onto the print media, the printing speed is limited by the speed at which the elements on the thermal head can change temperature. Heating the elements is easy, as a strong electric current can raise the temperature of an element very quickly. However, cooling the elements down, when changing from a darker to a lighter color, is harder and usually involves having a fan / heat sink assembly attached to the print head.

Dye Sublimation describes the 4 colour printing process. CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (black) Also called full colour. It is a subtractive colour model used in colour printing and photo reproduction onto lanyards.

The Dye sub lanyards are usually printed by partially or entirely masking certain colours onto the lanyard material background (typically white). By using the material to absorb various wavelengths of light, meaning we can create ultra bright or ultra dark, highly vibrant images and print them onto a lanyard of your choice.

Occasionally there will be a slight colour variation (+ or - 10%) this is due to the fact that there is no actual colour formula rather machinery and computer systems that use colour profiles to reproduce CMYK images and gradients.

Dye sub lanyards commonly display a bleed (usually 0.2 of a mm) however to the naked eye this is near invisible.

Previously, the use of dye-sub printing was limited to industrial or high-end commercial printing.

Dye-sub photo printing has been used in Medical Images, graphic arts proofing, security, and broadcast related applications, And now it is widely utilised for printing onto fabrics and textiles such as lanyards.
